Paul Allam was born in London in 1942 and studied Fine Art at the Chelsea School of Art, earning his N.D.D. (National Diploma Drawing and Design), in painting, as well as the Chelsea Diploma. He studied Art Education at Brighton College of Art and Crafts, gaining the A.T.C. (Art Teacher Certificate) from the University of London. Allam has worked in Art Education and Assessment for almost 40 years, and has been a Chief Examiner for schools and colleges in Art and in Critical Studies in Art and Design.
A painter first and foremost all his life, his earlier work in landscape, portraiture and figure painting has over the past decade become increasingly focused on the male nude, with paintings of great sensitivity, sure draughtsmanship, and rich color. Drawing from life has always been the foundation of his work, supported by a keen interest in photography and art history. His use of iconographic symbols such as Ganymede and Saint Sebastian, and the many veiled references to the history of painting and sculpture, add intrigue and rich historical overtones to his work.
His work is in many private collections in Europe and North America, and we are pleased to be able to represent it here.
